When We Are Afraid
The mugginess of summer is still weighing us down here in Arkansas this mid-September. It's been too hot to keep up with the weeds so the garden is an unruly mess, and we've reached the point in the year where my patience is sorely tested. But summer has not been only sweat-soaked misery! I would like to share a project I'm excited about which came to fruition this August. I am so grateful to have had one of my poems printed by A Revolutionary Press out of New Haven, Vermont. This non-profit press prints everything in the old-school way, with hand set type. Proceeds from the sale of these prints go to causes that promote peace and justice. Below is the result of my collaboration with owner John Vincent. I shared this poem with him, and he created the linocut graphic and printed it.
And just because I think this kind of printing process is so cool, here is a picture my dad took of the press for me:
That's something you don't see when you're printing your poem from a computer!
This press doesn't have a website, so if you're interested in getting a print of this, you'll have to either see if the Vermont Book Shop in Middlebury still has copies, or e-mail John Vincent at arevolutionarypress@gmail.com.
Thank you for reading, and I hope this inspires you to light candles.
