Day 197-199: Check-Ups

On Monday I had the joyous task of taking William in for a doctor's check-up and to get him caught up on his shots. This required bribery, but I eventually got him clothed and masked in his new Halloween-themed mask, and we went to town. He did very well with the doctor, answering her questions politely, and we got through the appointment just fine. I had assumed they would give him the shots right then and there, but it turns out that doctor's office didn't keep pediatric vaccinations on hand. A doctor's office. Without vaccinations. This makes zero sense to me, but William was thrilled. We had to make another appointment somewhere else for him to get caught up on his shots. But at least we now know he's in the 91st percentile for height!

On Tuesday we made an egg and cucumber delivery to Aunt Kathy. Our dear friend Queen Pee, who we usually sell our extra eggs to, went to the hospital with what she thought was either the flu or COVID, and it turned out to be a blood clot in her lung! She in the hospital recovering, and is tired but on the mend, thank goodness. Hopefully she'll be going home soon, but she won't be needing eggs for her farmers' market baking, since she'll be taking some time off from that. So, Aunt Kathy lucked out and got to have two dozen extra eggs. And just for fun, she's going to bake us cinnamon rolls as a trade. I like the barter system.

On Wednesday morning I had a dentist appointment for a cleaning. And, even though I brush with an electric toothbrush and floss every day, and I just had a cleaning in January, I still have two cavities! I'm so annoyed with my enamel. I have an appointment to get those fixed next week.

Wednesday afternoon we took the soccer ball and went to Aunt Kathy's front yard to play. She has such a nice big yard and we have forest and garden. Not so good for soccer. We ran around kicking the ball to each other, William making up incomprehensible games for us to play. It felt good to be kicking a ball around. Then when we were ready to go home, Aunt Kathy had warm cinnamon rolls for us to take home with us. I didn't get a picture of those because we ate them too quickly. My resolve to reduce my sugar intake erodes dramatically when warm, homemade cinnamon rolls are in the house. I feel like the snake in the garden of Eden could have just been a smell of cinnamon wafting through the air. That's all it would have taken for me to buckle.
