Day Sixteen: I Didn't Break the Puppy

Daisy woke us all up early. William, Jeremy and I were up at six. She is really an easy puppy but she does like to wake up early. Since it was so early I actually let her come in the house and put her on the futon with William. I wanted them to entertain each other so I could do some work. She didn't want to be up there though, and hopped down to the floor but started to yelp and limp, like she'd hurt her front leg. She was okay and didn't fuss when I picked her up and felt her leg, but when I set her down she was yelping and limping again. Oh no, I broke the puppy!! was my immediate thought. Jeremy the EMT assessed her, and said she was fine. Indeed, after a little while she was walking like normal. So who knows what that was about. I'm just grateful she didn't go the way of the catfish.

Today was a grouchy day. The kids were fine, Jeremy was fine. I was grouchy. I hate that feeling but I feel trapped within it whenever it settles on my shoulders like a wet wool blanket. The things that helped were:

  • Up-potting my tomato plants
  • Planting lettuce with my kids
  • Daisy snuggles on the porch
  • Listening to my audiobook
  • Commiserating with a friend
  • Reading to my kids
  • Sleep
The list of things that annoyed me is much longer, but I won't bore anyone with that here. It was just a grouchy day. I know the wet blanket will fall away presently and I will revel in the sunshine on my shoulders when it does.
