Day Forty-Eight: Geraniums and Fire Torches
I've started the tradition of making a special breakfast on Saturdays, and today it was chocolate chip pancakes. After we all gorged on the decadent breakfast, I piddled around doing small tasks. I had a pot that had three crowded geraniums in it, so I divided them and put them in their own pots, with some mushroom compost to give them a boost. I did a deep clean of the kitchen counter. I planted cosmos, nasturtiums, and bachelor's buttons. I didn't have a plan, I just followed my whim, and had a slow-paced, pleasant morning.
Jeremy cleaned a part of the porch that had accumulated random tools, scraps of lumber, and other odds and ends, and it totally changed the feel of the whole porch. It's amazing how you can walk past a messy pile for months, and then finally decide to deal with it, and once you do it doesn't take very long and the result makes everything so much better.

In the afternoon, Taiya was booooored, so we played Yahtzee out on the porch table. I made her add up her points, so I feel like I sneaked some math practice in there. After that she decided she wanted to have a tea party, so she set the table with her fancy tea set (a tea set that used to be Jeremy's and his brother's when they were kids), I made some peppermint tea, and we had the last of Queen Pee's cookies. William joined us, and eventually Jeremy too. We acted quite formal, asking each other, "How is your family doing?" and "I hope you have had a good spring," and "How is your garden doing this year?" She had dressed in her most flowery dress with puffed sleeves, and we were acting out the Anne of Green Gables scene where she and Diana had a tea party together, though we left out the part where Anne accidentally got Diana drunk on currant wine.
It was a hot afternoon, up in the 80's, so we got out our new porch fan. That turned out to provide plenty of entertainment for the rest of the afternoon. Taiya got a silk(ish) scarf and played with that in the powerful airflow, swirling, spinning, and dancing with it. She and William invented all kinds of games to play, naming different moves, like "Fire Torch," "Skip-Rope," and "Watery Waves." Between that and the hose, I think we've got our summer's activities sorted out.
