Day 181-187: A Week Ending With The Loss of RBG

Time to play catch-up again on the week, so, things that happened this week, in no particular order:

Daisy the Giant Puppy and Her Girl.

Daisy and Dozer both went to the vet to get fixed. They're both doing fine.

I went to the doctor for my regular check-up which I'd been putting off since the pandemic. I am fit as a fiddle, I'm happy to report. Oh, except for the foot pain I've been having for a couple years turns out to be a bunion. So now I feel old. Something about the word bunion, it just automatically ages me an extra decade or two. But! I googled ways to reverse bunions, and have found some massages and stretches that look like they will help.

Jeremy got the kids a fish tank and two large mouth bass babies. Then we killed them when we put a filter in the tank! Could we have worse luck with fish?? Then Jeremy caught two perch in the pond so now we have two more fish. They are still alive.

Taiya had a class "meet-up" on Google Meet, and it was a half hour of total chaos. I thought the teacher would be organizing a conversation or something, but no, it was 30 minutes of kids talking over each other and unable to actually hear anything. I heard "STOP TALKING!" "SHHHH!!!!!" "I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING!" And once I heard a "Hi, Taiya!" but we didn't know who had said it, and we couldn't say anything back and expect it to be heard. Taiya and I agreed it was utterly pointless, and she said, "It reminded me how noisy school is!"

I've significantly reduced my sugar intake this week, and it hasn't actually been that difficult. I've decided I'm not going to eliminate sugar completely right now, but I will cut out the sweet snacking habit I have. I'm allowing myself maple syrup and my homemade jams, but no candy or ice cream. For a while.

It's cooled off this week! The kids are actually complaining about being cold, it's awesome! Because it's cooler, the kids are much more willing to go to the farm and help with evening chores.

Skye and Dozer.

Bonnie and Bittie Bonnie, who is not so bittie anymore!

Lastly and most tragically, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away. I saw the news and started crying. I'm not an RBG super-fan - I don't own any RBG-inspired t-shirts or jewelry - but I am a huge admirer of her work and her mind and everything she's done for women in this country. And I just had this crashing feeling of fear of the political shenanigans her death will spawn. I just hope the Democrats will be able to pull the old Merrick Garland trick on the Republicans and throw that back in their faces. Come. On. Democrats. Do it for RBG. And for us all.
