Day 139 & 140: Quiet Weekend
The kids were gone for another weekend at Gammie and Poppie's house. It may be the last time for a while that it is safe for them to go there, since Gammie is a middle school teacher and will be starting to go back to work this week for in service days. She will be masked and taking every precaution to stay safe while she is at work, but still she will be more exposed than she has been all summer, so we're going to have to keep our distance going forward.
Jeremy and I got the wall paneling put up on the play house, and he put tar paper over the roof. We have enough used metal roofing to get it entirely in the dry soon. We're calling it the kids' playhouse/my future writing studio. I mean, some day they'll grow out of needing a playhouse, right?
My big plans for while they were gone were to make a batch of beet relish, but even those modest plans were thwarted by subpar cabbage. So, I really didn't do much, and it was fantastic. I made a simple dinner for we two adults Saturday evening. Leftover spaghetti heated up with sauteed zucchini, green beans, garlic, tomatoes, and basil. Then we just... sat around. I didn't have to clean much like I did before because I've managed to stay on top of the messes since then, miraculously. We stayed up late watching a few episodes of an old favorite show, Firefly, and slept in in the morning.
In the morning, I went to the creek with Daisy, with my journal and a book, and sat basking in the sun, reading and writing and getting splashed and slobbered on occasionally by my wild companion. It felt wonderful. Well, not the slobber so much as the quiet time with a journal.

| Jeremy kind of looks naked in this picture, but I promise he was wearing shorts. Safety first, after all. |
It was a good, slow weekend where we got enough done to feel productive and got enough not-done to feel relaxed. A good way to start August!
