Day 141: Thomas

The trains escaped their bin and have taken over the living room. Thomas, James, Nia, Helpful Harvey, and unnamed others are rattling over the wooden tracks that curl and interlock like a Celtic knot. Dinosaurs prowl the landscape, adding danger and excitement. Farm animals stand by their barn, aloof, never guessing a T-Rex is lurking nearby.

William asks me to sit on the floor and play with him, and he tells me what to do every step of the way. "Now you say this," and "Now you move him there." It is difficult to remain present during this kind of play. My mind is always wandering away from floor-level, back to the work waiting for me on my laptop. But I try.
