Day 161: Pesto, Pool, Pupusas, Purple

The last day before the start of school. I remember well the end of summer: a mix of sadness over the loss of long days of traipsing around with friends and excitement that smells like new pencils and fresh three-ring binders. This year that transition will be a little blurry, since the kids won't be returning to the classroom, but I still feel change in the air.

Today I was more proactive about getting the kids off their screens. I let them watch for a couple hours in the morning, and then we played. They played with toys, with the sprinkler, with each other. I made pesto from the ruffled basil leaves are loving the heat of summer. We went to the pool in the afternoon and splashed and swam. Since watching The Greatest Showman, we have taken to doing circus performances in the pool while singing "This is the greatest show!" loudly and repeatedly, since we can't remember the other words. William has decided that Sunday is pupusa day, so that's what we had for dinner, topped with some black beans I unearthed in the freezer and delicious, crunchy, salty pink curtido.

Jeremy also created a home office for me today. I am currently standing at a drafting table pushed to horizontal and raised to standing-desk height. I am in a corner of the old cabin room, my computer and a lamp plugged into a plug-in box (is there a more technical term for it?) that Jeremy installed this morning. It is silent and peaceful, and I think I'm going to love it.

Purple.
